Cavities and tooth decay are the most common factors that cause tooth decay in adults and children.  Toothache is a term that is used to describe all the troubles regarding your teeth. It can be painful situation whenever you eat anything cold or hot or a gnawing situation that stays there even when you have eaten a while ago. If you have a severe toothache, then the wise thing to do is to go to your dentist as he is the best person to help you out with that. You can also take certain preventive measures from your side to get rid of a toothache.

Flossing and Rinsing

Whenever you first feel toothache, rinse your mouth properly with water, warm in temperature, and then floss the teeth to eliminate the leftover food particles stuck in your teeth. This could ease the pain and also stops the bacteria infection to be caused in your mouth.

Pain Relievers

Pain relievers provide a quick relief from the pain that is because of the toothache. Use painkillers that are advised by the manufacturers only and do not use it more than mentioned per day. Many painkillers are harmful for your stomach or liver.  Do not put the pain relievers against your gum or tooth directly. This could damage the tissues near your gums.

Antiseptic Measures

Topical antiseptics are also one great way to ease the pain caused from toothache. You can apply these antiseptics directly to the gum or the tooth to reduce the pain and irritation. Like painkillers, these antiseptics should be used according to the instructions of manufacturer only.

Home Remedies

You can reduce the toothache pain by some home remedies as well.  Try chewing an onion piece.  Onions have properties of anti-biotic and can be beneficial in easing the pain. If you are having issues chewing the piece, then smash the piece of onion and apply the juice on the tooth. This will definitely ease the pain.

Using clove oil for toothache is also a great home remedy. It is used for many other problems as well. Put some drops of clove oil on your tooth and then spread the oil on the gums near the tooth. The pain will be reduced in a very less time.

Another home remedy for toothache is salt water. Mix around 3 teaspoons of salt into around water (6 ounces) and keep it in the mount for around 20 to 25 seconds. You will see the difference yourself when you will do it regularly.

These remedies are effective and certainly help you get rid of a toothache. If the pain persists after you have tried all the remedies mentioned above, then it means that the problem is severe and only a dentist can solve it. Get an appointment with your dentist as soon as possible and get the problem fixed.
